Washington state businesses wanting to dedicate effort toward environmental sustainability initiatives have an opportunity to bring on a college intern for that work at no cost.

Up to five businesses in industries ranging from food and beverage processing to metal fabrication can apply for funding for the internships from the Washington Applied Sustainability Internship program. Interns hired by the program for approved projects will receive $8,500 stipends for 10 weeks to work on projects and efforts such as reducing emissions, water conservation, finding safer chemical alternatives for industry applications and more.

Any business or organization in the state is eligible to participate in the Washington Applied Sustainability Internship program. Business applications are due Feb. 19.

College students studying engineering, chemistry, sustainability, or environmental science and interested in receiving an internship can begin applying on March 17.
